Whooping Cough in pregnancy

There has recently been a rapid rise in whooping cough, with a big increase in young babies. Due to this information it is important that we protect those young babies who may suffer. The babies that suffer are usually too young to have their first vaccinations, therefore the only way pregnant ladies can protect their baby is to have the vaccination themselves while they are pregnant. The best time to get the vaccination is between 28 and 32 weeks. Please contact the surgery for more information.

Pneumonia

Anyone aged 65 and over is entitled to Pneumonia vaccinations from the NHS. If you fall into this age catagory and have not previously had this vaccination please contact the surgery, for an appointment.

NHS Cervical Screening (smears)

NHS Cervical Screening

  • Cervical screening is not a test for diagnosing cancer. It is a test to check the health of the cervix, which is the lower part of the womb
  • For many women the test results show that everything is fine.
  • But for around one in 20 women, the test shows changes in cells that can be caused by many things
  • Most of these changes will not lead to cervical cancer.
  • Cervical screening is also introducing testing for human papillomavirus (HPV). Certain types of HPV can cause abnormal changes in the cervix

please click here for a copy of NHS CERVICAL SCREENING LEAFLET

If you do not wish to have a cervical smear the primary care cervical screening/ recall department request your dissent in writing. You can defer (postpone your recall for either 3yrs if you are 24.5yrs to 49 or 5yrs if you are 50yr to 64yrs) by completing the deferral form below
